My First Hospitality project: The Leaf

Nagarkot is a village that exists on the lap of mountains in central Nepal near Bhaktapur. It is a paradise of Nepal, Located more than 2100 m from sea level. It is situated in the Kavre district. Nagarkot has a reputation as the top spot for enjoying Himalayan views from the comfort of your hotel balcony. It is approximately 30 km far from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. There are different diversity exists in Nagarkot. The people of Nagarkot are kind, helpful, and polite. It is a tourist area and is most famous for hiking, Sunrise /Sunset views, Mountain views, Luxurious hotels, Cottages, and resorts. You can see more than 18 high peak Mountains from here in a 360-degree view. Mount Everest (the World’s highest peak) can also seen from here.

Experience as a civil engineer’s perspective

Nestled within the lush greenery of the Nagarkot jungle in Nepal lies the enchanting Nagarkot Villa Resort, a serene haven that I had the privilege to contribute to as a civil engineer for three fulfilling years. My time at this breathtaking location not only allowed me to hone my skills but also bestowed upon me unforgettable memories of working amidst nature’s splendor.

Undoubtedly, I am proud to express my feelings that this was my first hospitality project ( The Leaf: a luxurious hotel project) Situated on the core of the jingle of the Nagarkot that I worked on for 3 years from 2016 AD to 2019 AD.

The tranquil oasis:

Nagarkot Villa Resort stands as a testament to tranquility and luxury seamlessly intertwined. Surrounded by dense forests and commanding panoramic views of the majestic Himalayas, it offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The resort boasts a collection of meticulously designed villas, each exuding elegance and warmth, providing guests with a serene sanctuary amidst nature’s embrace.

Integration with nature:

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work at Nagarkot Villa Resort was the emphasis placed on preserving the natural beauty of the surroundings. As a civil engineer, I was tasked with designing structures that harmonized with the environment, minimizing the ecological footprint while ensuring structural integrity and guest comfort. Through innovative design and sustainable construction practices, we seamlessly integrated the villas into the landscape, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the pristine beauty of the Nagarkot jungle.

Innovative engineering solutions:

Working in such a unique location presented its own set of challenges, from navigating rugged terrain to mitigating the impact of seasonal weather fluctuations. However, it also fueled our creativity, inspiring us to devise innovative engineering solutions tailored to the needs of the resort. Whether it was implementing eco-friendly building materials or devising efficient drainage systems to combat heavy monsoon rains, every project undertaken was a testament to our commitment to excellence and sustainability.

Memories to cherish:

As I reflect on my time spent at Nagarkot Villa Resort, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the experiences shared and the friendships forged. From witnessing awe-inspiring sunrises over the Himalayas to celebrating the completion of ambitious construction projects, each moment was imbued with a sense of purpose and camaraderie that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

For which titles we can make table of content ?

There are diffrent types of table of content exist for blogger and website .Like for Headings,Sub headings and minor headings. In case of Blogspot blog we can find <h1>,<h2>,<h3>,<h4> tags for post title,Heading,Sub heading ,Minor headings.

Now today i am going to teach you create a table of content for Headings and Sub headings titles only.

Note:If you coding your templates for TOC which use Headings only under TOC then you must make your post titles under headings .Where as if you use sub heading TOC then make sure your titles are under sub headings .

Topcon Totalstaion- Data input and layout using Coordinates( E-series Totalstation)

Total station: It is a optical / electronic instrument which is mostly use for Surveying a land before start any project like Road,Bridge,Building,railway,Airport,Boundary survey and Construction.

It is also widely applicable to find distance coordinates and height of any object with Precise. From total station we can measure distance,Height,Level of any object or for any Project .For this we need to setup Total station and enter data that we observed from this instrument and later we can output data from this machine and plot on Auto cad to create traverse,Drawing,Boundary work ,Setting out of any project ,counter of existing area ,to find cross-section area and many more.There are lots of total station available in market but today i am going to teach you how to input data and layout on ground by using coordinates that given from total station Using Topcon E-series Total station.With the functionality of many high-end robotic total stations, our ES series is full-featured and ready to tackle modern job site.

Steps for layout using Topcon E-series Total Station:

Step 1:-

1. Fix/set the instrument at station point which coordinates is known.

2. Then exact centering should be done.3. Fix tilt that should be all bubble is in centre. (To check leveling)

4. Press ESC

5. Press FUNC for Menus

6. F3: Go to TOPO

7. Choose Occupy. Station

8. Coordinate:-Put N, E, Z, HI of Station point

9. Ok

Step 2:-

To Check Instrument: Input Data for another Known Point (Back Sight)

1. Press Menu bottom or Esc to go back sight:

2. Coordinate

3. Put N, E, Z, PI (prism Height) of another known Point (Back sight Station)

4. Sight to prism at known point (BS station)

5. MEAS: to measure data

Note: – Check- If previous enter NEZ data and after measured NEZ Data are same then instrument is ok.otherwise again setup machine or change for another location.(Permissible error: mm to 2 cm)

6. REC: – To record known point data

Step 3:-

For Layout New point (To find out Unknown Point on ground)

1. Press ESC for Main menu

2. Go to S-O Data: to search ordinate of unknown Point

3. Enter

4. Coordinate

5. Put NEZ of Desire Point

6. Now rotate Device and sight on prism. Rotate machine horizontally until it shows HR:(Horizontal Angle) Zero 0 0’0″.Thats the desire point’s line direction.

10. Click MEAS

11. If -ve then put prism back, +ve then put prism forward on that line. it should me exactly zero (Distance Should be 0). Thats the desire point.

Repeat Step3: Procedure to find out others unknown points

How to find out Coordinates using AutoCAD

AutoCAD is a software launched by Autodesk Family to make drawing,draft and design of any project in simple way.Application of Autocad is very wide in engineering ,Surveying & designing Field.
Today i am going to show you how to find coordinates (Easting:X,Northing :Y)of any object from Autocad drawings which is very applicable for layout of any project on Ground before Construction.It is the first stage of Construction.For this a Surveryor must be Survey the project and later that design on AutoCAD .
To find exact Coordinates from Autocad drawings you can follow flowing steps below:

Step 1:-

Open Contour plan or any drawing plan on AutoCAD

Step 2:-

Put a crusher that you want to find out Coordinates (X, Y) where X=Easting & Y= Northing

That displays on left bottom side on your Work space.

If you want to display Coordinates that you desire on your AutoCAD file then follow these steps:

Step 3:-

Type “point “command (Without Quote) and click on that you want to find out coordinates, which display point

Step 4:-

Type “Ddptype” command (Without Quote) to change Point Style. From this Command you can change your desired point style.

Step 5:-

To Resize Point style Choose set size in absolute units then Set value on Point Size as figure below:

Step 6:-

Now to find Coordinate of that point choose leader or type “T” Command (Without Quotes) for text.

Step 7:-

Now Select text and Right click on text and click on Insert Field then it will open dialogue box

Step 8:-

Ø Choose Field category as Object

Ø Click on Object type pick Bottom icon and click on centre of point that you want to your coordinates

Ø After that Choose Position and finally check on X, Y, Z box to get Easting, Northing, Elevation of that point. Then click ok.

Step 9:-

To Remove Background Color right Click on Coordinates

Ø Click on Editor Setting

Ø Uncheck Show Background.

Step 10:-

To find various coordinates of different point then

Ø Copy points with coordinates that and paste on your desire locations.

Ø It shows same coordinate values because you copy and paste pervious point coordinate.

Ø To find exact coordinates of these point Type “Regenall” command (without Quote) then click Enter.

Ø Finally you also find out Various points Coordinates using these steps.

The Leaf Hospitality, Nagarkot Hotel Project is a one of the luxurious Hotel in Nepal located at
Kavre district at Baluwapati near Nagarkot View Tower with land coverage 80 ropani in
mountainous terrain. The project is separated in three Phases namely Phase-1, Phase-1A &
SPA. The Main objective of this project is to provide luxurious & hygienic life style within nature.

The project’s Structure is totally based on RCC, Stones & Bricks as per drawings provided by
Consultants.
 The Employer/Owner: The Leaf Hospitality.
 The Design Architect: MAP LLC.
 Executive Architect + Planner: Mathema and Partners Pvt.Ltd.
 Structure Consultant: MRB & Associates Pvt. Ltd.
 Electrical Consultant: G. Tech Pvt. Ltd
 Sanitary & Plumbing Consultant: Stupa Design & Associates Pvt.Ltd.
 The Contractor (Civil Construction Phase -1&Phase-1A): Contech Pvt.Ltd.
 The Contractor (SPA): New Anantadeep Construction Pvt.Ltd.

 The Contractor (MEP): Airtech Industries Pvt.Ltd.
 And Many More Contractors for different works.

Scope of Works

Scope of works comprises the following tasks to be completed:

 The Phase -1 project comprises Terrace villas-6nos, Duplex Villas-1 no., Forest Villas-3
nos., Sky Villas-2 no’s, Wine Cellar, Cigar Lounge, Butler Huts-2 no’s and shop building.
 The Phase -1A project comprises Arrival Centre, Duplex villas, Garden villas, Terrace
villas, Butler huts & BOH buildings. It also Contain Swimming pool & ABR chambers.
 The SPA Project Contains ayurvedic-1, ayurvedic-2, signature-1, signature -2, Beauty
and pampering block, Arrival building, BOH for staffs and Tibetan singing bowl building
which is constructed by Natural Stones with RCC Structures.
 Earth retaining structures like Stone masonry wall, Gabions wall & RCC Shear Wall are
also constructed as per site conditions. Landscaping Location at Project Site

The project is being constructed in mountainous terrain ,so Landslide is the major issue for this
project .If landslide occurs here then Soil stability of land is totally unbalanced that makes
existing structures weak.
Major landslides occurred in this project due to heavy rainfall, which are:-
Phase-1A:
1.) Behind arrival center,
2.) Under swimming pool area occurs in 15 th Aug 2017,
3.) Under BOH-A/BOH-B Buildings,
4.) Near ABR Chamber
5.) Behind Plot -27 & plot-28.
SPA:
1.) At Arrival building,
2.) Behind Signature-1 &signature-2 Blocks.

Specifications for Item of Works, Units & rates as per Contract

1.) Earthwork Excavation Works (M25)

a.) Specification:
Excavation of Roadways , Retaining wall and drain using mechanical equipment
Including satisfactory cutting, grading , filling and Satisfactory disposal to the spoil pit(
Specified by Client on one way distance 3.5 km from site )from the site including
protection of services road using shoring on required area ,also including of Plant and
equipment for cutting filling, transportation of earth disposal and filling far from site
all complete the works of finishing level as specified in design and drawing or as
directed by Project Architect/Engineer.
b.) Unit: Cu.m.
c.) Contract Rate: RS.275.00

2.) Stone Soling

a.) Specification
Stone soling as directed by site engineer with minimum 200mm thickness.
b.) Unit: Sq.m
c.) Contract Rate: Rs.1275.00

3.) PCC Works:

a.) Specification:
Providing & laying concrete for Plain Cement Concrete (nominal mix) PCC work using
machine crushed metal of approved quality and grading of size below 20 mm in required
proportions, approved sand, for various works as stated below at all lead & lift including
machine mixing, laying, leveling, vibrating curing etc. complete (on site by mixer)
2.1)1:3:6 (1 cement: 3 coarse sand: 6 graded stone aggregate 20mm nominal size) as
directed by Project Manager / Engg‐ in‐ charge
b.) Unit: Cu.m.
c.) Contract Rate: Rs.12650.00

4.) PCC for RCC Works (M25)

a.) Specification:
Providing and laying controlled reinforced cement concrete conforming to Grade M25,
Nominal Mix (1:1:2) (IS 456‐1978) using Weigh Concrete Mixer at site at all levels, all
heights, all floors, all shapes, all lifts, pumping as require, given below, using coarse
sand, 20mm and down size coarse aggregates, including Mixing concrete admixture,
all leads and all lifts, any shape & slope, vibrating, scaffolding, wherever necessary,
curing as directed, hacking the exposed surface wherever required to receive plaster
or floated steel toweled surface wherever specified. The rate shall include for
providing recesses to slabs, walls, and columns and sleeves and / or openings in slabs,
construction joints, sunk slabs, cantilever slabs, making holes in formwork for taking,
out dowels etc. to the required shape, size and slope as shown in drawings & / or as
directed by Site Engineer.
b.) Unit: Cu.m.
c.) Contract Rate: RS.18600

5.) Form Work‐ Centering and Shuttering:

a.) Specification:
Formwork, shuttering, centering with 19mm thick waterproof ply for column ,
foundation base, structure walls, Lintel, cantilever beam, floor beam, floor slab, slope
roof slab, water tank etc. with necessary propping, scaffolding, staging, supporting
inclusive of wedging and cutting holes for utility sleeves.
b.) Unit: Sq.m.
c.) Contract Rate: Rs.1015.00

6.) TMT Thermex steel reinforcement bar (Fe‐500)

a.) Specification:
Providing and laying in position TMT Reinforcement Bars conforming IS‐1786,
gradeFe‐415, in place (tested quality) in all categories and diameters including
straightening, cutting, bending, hooking, binding with 18 gauge annealed binding
wires double fold to tie the bars in position, welding and keeping it in position during
concreting by means of stays, blocks, ties, spacers, chairs, hangers etc. complete at all
heights
/ lift and depth etc. as per drawings and according to relevant IS codes. Note:
Reinforcement including authorized chairs, spacers and hangers shall be measured in
length of different diameters used in the work nearest to a centimeters and their
weight calculated on the basis of standard weight. Wastage and unauthorized
overlaps shall not be paid for. Binding wire will not be paid separately. Bar Bending
schedule to be prepared & submitted by Contractor for payment certification.
Contractor shall make the existing Reinforcement bar straight without any extra cost.
b.) Unit: – Kg
c.) Contract Rate: Rs.130.00

7.) Stone Masonry Works

a.) Specification:
Providing, and Placing of stone masonry wall , Drainage wall and retaining wall up to
6m height as specified in Drawing, design including 200 mm height soling, 100mm
thick plain cement concrete in 1:3:6 and 1:3 cement sand mortar in super structure
and used Geo textile to cover one side of retaining wall, Brest wall, wing wall and back
filling works as per drawing , design, specification also Provide 100mm diameter HDP
pipe weep hole as on 1.2 to 1.5 m spacing horizontally and vertically all complete
works as directed by Project engineer/Architect. (Note: weep hole Slope is provided in
1: 8)
a.1) Stone masonry Retaining wall, Breast wall, Wing wall

8.) Gabion Works

Preventive Structures for affected areas with total Cost:

For Safety Purpose to prevent Massive land sliding problems in project we are constructing
Earth retain structures in affected areas. Types of Earth retain structures and their estimated
costs are described below:
In Phase -1A project, to prevent land sliding behind Arrival Building area, Shear wall was
Constructed which estimated cost is Rs. 491111.60
To prevent land sliding under swimming pool area, Gabion wall is constructing which
estimated cost is Rs 7142910.00
To prevent land sliding under BOH-A & BOH-B area, Stone masonry retaining wall will be
construction which estimated cost is Rs 6894527.50
Debris removal from Bathroom and changing room plinth slab ,due to landslide from BOH
Buildings .Which estimated Cost is Rs 44000.00
To prevent land sliding behind plot-27& plot-28 area, Stone masonry retaining wall will be
construction which estimated cost is Rs 4923105
Similarly to prevent land sliding at ABR Chamber, Shear wall is constructing for this estimated
cost is RS. 2080066.025
In SPA Project, behind signature-1 & singnature-2, stone masonry retaining wall will be
